Another Ragging Case In Kerala: Class 11 Student Beaten, Hand Fractured For 'Disrespecting Seniors'

Kerala Ragging Case: The attack reportedly took place on February 12 when the senior students ambushed Muhammed Nihal, a Class 11 student, and physically assaulted him.

Kerala Ragging Case: A Class 11 student in Kerala’s Kannur district suffered a fractured arm after allegedly being assaulted by his seniors for "not respecting them." The Kolavallur police confirmed on Friday that five Class 12 students of Kolavallur PR Memorial School have been booked in connection with the incident.

The attack reportedly took place on February 12 when the senior students ambushed Muhammed Nihal, a Class 11 student, and physically assaulted him, as per a report on India Today. The complaint stated that the accused beat him up brutally, resulting in a broken arm. Three of the five accused, all aged 18 and above, have been apprehended, while the police are on the lookout for the remaining two.

Reports suggest that tensions between Class 11 and Class 12 students had been simmering for some time due to alleged ragging incidents, but the school authorities had failed to intervene effectively, reported Deccan Herald. Now, they have launched an internal inquiry into the matter.

Currently, Nihal is receiving treatment at Thalassery Cooperative Hospital.

This latest incident has come to light just days after a disturbing ragging case at Kottayam Government Nursing College, where five senior students were arrested for subjecting their juniors to extreme physical and mental abuse, as per NDTV. A viral video from the Kottayam incident showed a junior student tied to a bed, with seniors placing a heavy object on his genitals and poking him with a compass while making lewd remarks.

These back-to-back incidents have reignited the debate over ragging in Kerala's educational institutions.

In another incident, a Class 11 student was found dead reportedly by suicide in his school. On Friday, when the school opened for the regular classes, the workers found the boy dead by hanging in Kuttichal Government Vocational Higher Secondary School. The reason for his extreme decision is yet to be known.
