WATCH: TN BJP Chief Annamalai Whips Self Over DMK Govt's Handling Of Anna University Assault Case

Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai was also seen barefoot following his vow to not wear footwear until the DMK was ousted from power.

A day after Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai announced a dramatic protest in Coimbatore to condemn DMK-led government's handling of Anna University sexual assault case, TN BJP chief clad-in a green dhoti whipped himself six times in front of his residence in the city on Friday morning. Annamalai was also seen barefoot following his vow to not wear footwear until the DMK was ousted from power.

In a press conference on Thursday, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai said, "Tomorrow, I will hold a protest in front of my house, where I will whip myself 6 times. Starting from tomorrow, I will fast for 48 days and appeal to the six-armed Murugan. Tomorrow, a protest will be held in front of the house of every BJP member. From tomorrow until the DMK is removed from power, I will not wear sandals. There must be an end to this..."

Stating that flogging was part of Tamil culture, Annamalai said that Anna University sexual assault was just a tipping point after what had happened in the last 3 years of DMK rule. Annamalai said, "Anybody understanding the Tamil culture will always know these are all part of the land. Flogging ourselves, punishing ourselves and putting ourselves through tough rhythms are all part of this culture. This is not against any person or thing but against a continuous injustice that is happening in the state."

"What has happened at the Anna University is only a tipping point. If you look at what has been happening in the last 3 years, continuous injustice against common people, women, children and high corruption... Yesterday we announced and I have chosen to go the path which a lot of my forefathers have walked on, flogging ourselves and whipping," he said.
