Andhra Pradesh: Vizag Engineering Student Kills Mother Over Online Gaming Dispute
On the day of the incident, Alka Singh confiscated her son’s laptop and mobile phone, triggering a heated argument between the two.

A third-year engineering student allegedly murdered his mother following an argument over online gaming in Visakhapatnam. The incident took place in Malkapuram area, where Anmol Singh (20), son of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commandant Balbir Singh, fatally stabbed his mother, Alka Singh (47), inside their residence.
According to police, Anmol was addicted to online gaming, which led to frequent disputes with his mother. On the day of the incident, Alka Singh confiscated her son’s laptop and mobile phone, triggering a heated argument between the two. As the confrontation escalated, Anmol, in a fit of rage, attacked his mother with a kitchen knife, fatally stabbing her, as per a report on Deccan Herald.
Following the attack, he locked the room and fled the scene. The crime came to light when his younger brother, Ayushman Singh, returned home from tuition and discovered his mother lying in a pool of blood. He immediately alerted the neighbors and informed their father, who was stationed on the Odisha coast at the time.
The Malkapuram police registered a case and took Anmol into custody. Reports indicate that he suffers from bipolar disorder, though authorities are yet to confirm if it played a role in the crime, reported Times of India. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and motive behind the attack.
In a similar incident in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district last year, a 50-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her own son to claim a Rs 50 lakh insurance payout. The accused, identified as Himanshu, had reportedly stolen his family's jewelry and used the money to purchase life insurance policies worth Rs 50 lakh each for his parents in December 2023. He was also addicted to online gambling games and was pushed to debts due to his addiction.
