When Will Indus Waters Treaty With Pakistan Be Restored? Here's What Amit Shah Said

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Home Minister Amit Shah declared India's permanent suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty due to alleged Pakistani violations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear that India has permanently suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and that it will not be reinstated. He accused Pakistan of violating the terms of the agreement, and as a result, it will no longer receive the water it was previously getting under the treaty.

In an interview with The Times of India, Amit Shah, when asked about the treaty, said, “No, it (the treaty) will never be restored." 

He also added that "We will take water that was flowing to Pakistan to Rajasthan by constructing a canal. Pakistan will be starved of water that it has been getting unjustifiably," Shah told ToI.

India's action after Pahalgam terror attack

Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 — which claimed the lives of 26 tourists — India started taking strong measures against Pakistan. The attack in Pahalgam triggered widespread anger and grief across the country. In response, India immediately suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and also took several diplomatic actions, including the expulsion of Pakistani nationals.

94 Arrested Since Pahalgam Terror Attack

One more person has been arrested for allegedly making pro-Pakistan and communal posts on social media, taking the total number of such arrests to 94 so far in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in April, reports news agency PTI quoting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Assam CM said that the person was arrested in Nalbari after constant monitoring, he said. 

Earlier, Sarma said that the 'state-wide crackdown on traitors would continue and nobody would be spared.The police have launched action against those people who were allegedly indulging in ''anti-India and pro-Pakistan activities''.The chief minister had also said that the National Security Act (NSA) will be clamped on certain people arrested in such cases, but not on all. Opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan and its complicity in the Pahalgam terror attack, but after he was granted bail in this case, he was booked under the NSA.
