Amit Shah Lands In Guwahati For A 2-Day Visit To Assam, Will Review Elections Preparations And Inaugurate Projects

After attending the series of government and party programs in Assam, Shah on Sunday would visit Manipur and before leaving Imphal he would lay the foundation stone for the Churachandpur Medical College and meet the civil society leaders.

Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Assam and Manipur from Saturday and inaugurate a slew of new projects in both the northeastern states. Shah’s programmes in Guwahati today include the distribution of financial grants to 8,000 traditional Vaisnavite monasteries of the state under the Assam Darshan programme. He will also lay foundation stones for the development of Batadrava Than as a cultural and tourist destination, a new medical college in Guwahati and nine law colleges to be established across Assam. He will meet religious leaders of 8000 Namghars and will distribute various grants to them," Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Amit Shah landed in Guwahati on Friday night and thanked people for such a warm welcome. About the media report of Congress leader and former Minister Ajanta Neog's joining the BJP, Sarma said: "Till now she has not contacted the BJP. There is no joining programme in Amit Shah's minute to minute itinerary." Recently she met Assam Chief Minister regarding setting up an institution in her constituency. This has fuelled the speculation that she is joining the BJP. Now that Congress has expelled her, she may consider joining the BJP. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) vice president and Assam in-charge Baijayant Panda has said many opposition leaders from Assam are in touch with the party. “A large number of MLAs in West Bengal have joined us. This is happening all over the country and in other states also. In Assam too, several elected representatives at the local level in the recent few weeks have joined us. This is because all over the country undeniable popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is exceptional,” Panda said, according to ANI. Amit Shah will also meet various NDA partners, including Assam's regional political party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Gana Shakti, and Rabha Joutha Mancha. Shah will also meet Assam BJP core committee members and will take stock of the party's poll preparedness ahead of assembly polls in the state. On December 27, the Union home minister will leave for Manipur from Guwahati and will lay the foundation stone for Churachandpur medical college in Imphal along with several other projects. Shah will also meet civil society groups of Manipur and leave for Delhi on the same day.
