'PM Modi Killing Democracy': Atishi, Pradeep Kumar Participate In Candle March To Protest Against Kejriwal's Arrest

Several AAP leaders including Atishi and Kuldeep Kumar participated in a candle march in New Delhi's Kondli area to protest against CM Kejriwal's arrest.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Sunday demonstrated across the national capital in protest against the arrest of their leader, Arvind Kejriwal. He was arrested by the ED from his residence on Thursday night two hours after questioning in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Excise Policy case.

The party workers shouted slogans against the BJP, which rules the Centre, and thus, governs the probe agency Enforcement Directorate. They also burned effigies in New Delhi’s Govindpuri area to protest against the arrest of CM Kejriwal.

Several AAP leaders including Atishi and Kuldeep Kumar participated in a candle march in New Delhi's Kondli area to protest against the arrest.

Speaking to the reporters, Atishi said, “Today AAP is carrying out candle marches in every ward and assembly constituency across Delhi against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. PM Modi is killing democracy in the country. This is the first time that after the announcement of elections, the national convenor of a national party is arrested, and the bank accounts of the Congress party frozen.”

Kumar told PTI, “Today we (AAP leaders) have not come to the streets of Delhi but the people of Delhi. The public is questioning why the CM has been arrested and put in jail?”
He also addressed a press conference in Delhi, where he stated, "Teams of Delhi Police have been deployed at AAP party offices and at places where AAP workers are protesting. Officers from different police stations have been given a duty to stop AAP workers from protesting instead of their actual duty, which is to protect women in Delhi."

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also led a protest against Kejriwal, demanding strict punishment against him in the excise policy case, in which he has been arrested.

The party workers also burned an effigy of the Aam Aadmi Party leaders.
