5 Hurt In Stone Pelting During Ram Navami Procession In Jharkhand After Violence In Other States

An incident of stone pelting during the Ram Navami immersion procession in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur has injured five persons.

Ram Navami Violence: Stone pelting and violence on Ram Navami continued till late at night on Friday as clashes broke out between two groups in Jamshedpur's Haldipokhar area in Jharkhand. Stones were pelted during a Ram Navami immersion procession here after a group opposed the procession. The other group then organised a 'Hanuman Chalisa' recitation to their response.

ANI reported citing police that around five people got injured in the arson and that situation is peaceful. However, to avert any untoward incident in the area, a heavy security presence has been ensured in the locality.

The developments come after incidents of violence were reported from West Bengal's Howrah and Bihar's Sasaram and Nalanda during Ram Navami celebrations on Friday.

According to ANI, Deputy commissioner, East Singhbhum said, "Situation in Haldipokhar and other parts of the district is completely under control and peaceful. Adequate forces have been deployed. As of now, there's no need to impose Section 144. The situation is being monitored."

Violence In Bihar

The local administration in Bihar's Sasaram city imposed Section 144 after clashes broke out between two groups during Ram Navami procession on Friday. According to the police, people resorted to stone pelting and also vandalised several vehicles and roadside stalls. After receiving information about the clash, police immediately reached the spot to control the situation.

"There is tension between both groups, and stone pelting also occurred. Some houses were set on fire. The fire is being doused.  The administration came to the spot and calmed them down. The situation is under control now,' said ADM Chandrashekhar, as reported by ANI.

A few police personnel also sustained injuries as they tried to control the situation when clashes broke out between the two groups in the city.

Violence was also reported from Nalanda's Gagan Diwan area during Ram Navami procession. Stone pelting and arson of vehicles also occurred during the clashes between two groups, reported ANI.

A heavy presence of security personnel was seen in the Shibpur area of Howrah where fresh violence broke out on Friday. A total of 46 people were arrested in connection with the violence since Thursday.
