New Delhi: A former councillor and his elder brother were shot dead by armed assailants who fired 30 rounds of bullets on the duo in Pataudi block here on Friday morning, police said.

According to the police, five armed assailants, who arrived in two motorcycles and a SUV, pumped the bullets into former councillor Parmjit Singh Thakran (36) and his elder brother Surjit Singh Thakran (39), in front of their house in Khod village.

The deceased were into the liquor trade and also owned a private school, police said, adding that prima facie the killing seems to be the result of a business rivalry.

The incident took place at around 9.20 am when Parmjit was on a phone call outside his house. His brother was about 200 metres away, the police said.

As villagers gathered, the assailants managed to flee from the spot.

The two brothers succumbed to their injuries at a private hospital here.

Following the complaint of Ajit Singh, brother of the deceased duo, an FIR has been registered against 13 people, including 8 named ones under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 302 & 148 at Pataudi police station.

All came on bikes and a Scorpio ...fired on my brother Parmajit first outside Dharmbir Nambardar's house. When I saw and ran towards my house from another way I found that others were firing on my brother Surjit. When I, my father Sumer Singh and Aunty Rajo Devi raised the alarm they managed to flee away. It was pre-planned murder conspired by Dhanora village residents Dhanpat and his nephew Jassu , Ajit Singh said in his complaint.

Raids are being conducted to nab the accused while a huge police force has been deployed in the village Khod as a precaution, they said.

An FIR has been registered against 13 including 8 identified persons. Our teams are conducting raids at suspected places. Hope the accused will be nabbed soon and only then the actual cause behind the murders will be ascertained , Manbir Singh, DCP, Manesar told PTI.

According to the police, the accused are identified as Ajay, Dinesh, Rohit, Dinesh alias Gangaram, all residents of Khod., Sandeep Goriyawas, Dharmender Sarpanch of Mushedpur village, Dhanpat and Jassu, residents of Dhanora village.

It might be the result of business rivalry and police is also investigating it in connection with a double murder in the village in 2012 when two men were shot dead over a monetary dispute, the police said.
