2 Polish Nationals Dead As Massive Avalanche Strikes J&K's Gulmarg, Rescue Operation Underway

Two Polish were killed and 21 others were rescued when a massive avalanche struck a group of visitors in Jammu and Kashmir's famed ski resort of Gulmarg, police said.

A video from the scene shows the visitors' horror as the whoosh of snow fell upon them, news agency ANI reported.

Taking to Twitter, Baramullah Police stated: "Rescue ops at Gulmarg avalanche, Baramulla police teams along with others on job.So far 19 foreign nationals have been rescued successfully. Dead bodies of 2 foreign nationals recovered being shifted to hospital for medico legal procedure."

After receiving the information on avalanche, Baramulla police dispatched combined rescue teams from Jammu and Kashmir police and the tourist department to the avalanche location.
During the rescue operations, 19 foreign nationals and two local guides were saved.
On receiving the information Baramulla police mobilized joint rescue teams of JKP and the tourism department and they reached the site of the avalanche.

"Today morning 3 teams comprising 21 Foreign nationals and 2 local guides went to Affarwat Gulmarg for skiing. At about 12.30 pm a massive avalanche hit Hapatkhud Kangdori where these skiing teams got trapped," the police stated.
