17th Lok Sabha's first session begins; Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes oath of duty
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first MP to take oath in the 17th Lok Sabha which met for the first time on Monday after the declaration of the general elections results on May 23.

Before entering the Lower House Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media. PM Modi at the Parliament said, "We are working to fulfil people's aspirations. New friends will join today and they will bring new energy. We value the Opposition and their role. The Opposition should play an active role in Parliament." While stressing upon the role of an active Opposition, PM Modi said that Opposition’s role is important and they need not bother about their numbers in the Parliament. “The role of an active Opposition is important. Opposition need not bother about their numbers. Earlier in the day, BJP MP Virendra Kumar was appointed as the protem speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha. He is a seven-time MP from Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh. He administered oath to all the MPs and enable the House to elect a permanent Speaker.Today marks the start of the first session after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. I welcome all new MPs.
