Sounds different, right? This is due to the fact that older Jawas used a two-stroke engine. So it’s not surprising that it has a slow, slightly metallic idle which turns throaty when revved.  In comparison, the modern iteration packs a four-stroke motor and has a flat, fast-paced and bassy exhaust.

Speaking about the engine, Jawa has designed it to look like an old-school motor. However, underneath all that, it packs a modern 300cc motor that churns out 27PS of power. In comparison, older Jawa bikes made half as much as power at 12PS with its 250cc engine.

The new Jawa also packs modern components like telescopic front forks, twin gas-charged shock absorbers, a 280mm front disc and a 153mm rear drum unit. For safety, it gets a single-channel ABS unit.

The Jawa Forty Two has been priced at Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the classic version, simply called the Jawa is priced at Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
