Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: The much-awaited festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, known as Ganeshotsav, kicks off across the country today. People are excited to welcome Lord Ganesha into their abodes as the 10-day grand festivity begins after celebrations were muted for almost two years due to Covid-19.

The day falls on the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month (August or September of the Gregorian Calendar). Lord Ganesha (also called Ganpati Bappa by his followers) is worshipped as the God of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune.

On this day, Ganapati Sthapana and Ganapati Puja are performed during the Madhyahna period of the day, which is considered the most suitable time for Ganesha Puja.

The Shodashopachara Ganapati Puja, which is a meticulous ceremonial Ganesha Puja, is performed by Ganesha devotees in the middle of the day. 

It is that time of the year when people soak in festive fervour and enjoy the festival with their friends and family. Grand statues of the Lord are placed in specially constructed and beautifully decorated pandals.  Those who are far away from their loved ones can always share greetings with them.
