Google Year In Search 2022: Agneepath Scheme For Army Recruitment Makes It To Top Searches In 'What Is' Category

Agneepath scheme or Agnipath Yojana was launched on June 14 by the Central Government with an aim of encouraging the youth of India to participate and enlist in the armed forces.

Google has released the 'Year in Search' list that shows the top trends on Google Search over the last 12 months. The search engine has created several categories with keywords on categories what is, how to, movies, near me, and sports events.

The list which is released every year for various countries shows a noticeable shift in search trends in India.

In the ‘What Is’ category, Indians heavily searched for 'what is Agneepath scheme', which the government proposed earlier this year for new army recruits. It is followed by NATO, NFT, PFI, and the square root of 4.

Agneepath scheme or Agnipath Yojana was launched on June 14 by the Central Government with an aim of encouraging the youth of India to participate and enlist in the armed forces.

Through this government scheme, interested youths between the ages of 17.5 and 21 years can apply for recruitment under the Indian Air Force, Indian Army and Indian Navy. Selected candidates, would earn the title of Agniveer, and would work in the defence sector for four years.

As per the government, not more than 25 percent of the total strength of those recruited will be selected for the permanent cadre.

Candidates who retire after four years will not be eligible for pension but will be eligible for an amount of approximately ₹11.71 lakh at the end of their respective tenures.

It is to be noted that while the launch of Agneepath Scheme led to nationwide protests, the armed forces – IAF, Army and Navy – have already completed the recruitment for 2022 batch of Agniveers and are now taking out 2023 recruitment.

Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League (IPL) topped the overall 2022 trending search results in India, and was also the most searched sports event in the country.

IPL was followed by CoWIN, a government web portal that facilitates registrations and appointments for Covid vaccines and issues digital vaccine certificates. The third most trending search topic in the country was the FIFA World Cup, which kicked off on November 20 in Qatar. The fourth and fifth positions too were occupied by sports events namely the Asia Cup and ICC Men's T20 World Cup respectively.
