Has Indian Govt Banned More Chinese Apps Without Announcement? Report Reveals

A news report has revealed that more Chinese apps have been banned without an official announcement by IT Ministry.

New Delhi: Reportedly, the Indian government has decided to ban more Chinese apps without announcing the decision yet. ALSO READ | WhatsApp Takes Another Step To Fight Misinformation With New Feature That Verifies Forwarded Messages A report by Reuters revealed that the central government has banned more mobile apps of Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Baidu. However, unlike the earlier instances, the ban has not been officially announced yet. As per sources, the new prohibited apps include Mi Browser Pro and Baidu's search apps. The IT Ministry is yet to make the decision public and has not till now commented on the report. Meanwhile, the Chinese government's reaction will also be awaited. ALSO READ | 'Correct Your Mistake': Beijing Fumes After India Puts Ban On 47 More Chinese Apps Earlier Bans In a surprise decision in June, the Indian government decided to ban 59 Chinese apps including popular ones like TikTok, ShareIt, Parallel Space, etc. A move that was questioned by some but popularly hailed as a 'Digital Strike'. After that, another ban was announced which prohibited 47 apps that are either the clones or 'light' versions of the already banned apps from being operational in India. China had reacted strongly to the restrictions. In a statement, Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy, Counselor Ji Rong had said that the move taken by the Indian side to ban the Chinese apps has damaged the rights of Chinese Companies and that "India should correct its wrongdoings".
