What’s the history behind the Father’s Day?
Father’s Day was first celebrated way back in 1910 in the US. It was founded on the third Sunday of June, at Spokane, Washington YMCA on June 19, 1910, by Sonora Smart Dodd. Sonora was aware of how Anna Jarvis founded Mother’s Day in honour of her mother and that’s when she suggested the pastor of her Church about a similar day to honor fathers too. Her father was a Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart who took care of six children in Arkansas as a single parent. She wanted to celebrate the day on her father’s birthday ie June 5, but the Church’s time constraints led to this and the celebration being deferred to the third Sunday of June.
