Padma Shri Awardee Doctor KK Aggarwal Passes Away Due To Covid-19, Condolences Pour In

Padma Shri awardee and former President of the Indian Medical Association passed away at 11.30 pm on Monday after a "lengthy battle with COVID-19"

New Delhi: Padma Shri awardee and former President of the Indian Medical Association Dr KK Aggarwal also lost the Covid-19 and passed away on Monday night.  The veteran doctor put up a tough fight at the age of 62 and remained on ventilator for about a week.

He passed away at 11:30 pm last night at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The family shared about his demise through the official Twitter account. Also Read: Tamil Writer And Sahitya Akademi Awardee Ki. Rajanarayanan Breaths His Last

The 62 year old was admitted to AIIMS for the past several days. Dr Aggarwal was a cardiologist and the head of the Heart Care Foundation of India. He received the Dr BC Roy Award in 2005 and the Padma Shree in 2010.

"Even during the pandemic, he made constant efforts to educate the masses and was able to reach out to 100 million people through numerous videos and educational programmes and saved countless lives. He wanted his life to be celebrated and not mourned," the statement said.

AAP MLA Somnath Bhartimourned the death on social media platform saying Dr Aggarwal acted all his life as a fighter for the health rights of people especially poor, deprived, and marginalized. 

He finished his schooling in Delhi and attained MBBS from Nagpur University. Since the outbreak of pandemic, he had been posting videos on the disease and sharing insights about various aspects of the disease and it’s management. 

On Sunday, the account updated his status saying Dr KK is recovering from Covid-19, and the account is being managed by HCFI & Medtlaks.

Meanwhile 50 doctors were reported to have died from contracting Coronavirus on Sunday, and 244 doctors till now have lost their lives to Covid this year in India's second wave. According to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) registry, Bihar has registered the highest number of deaths of physicians at 69, which is followed by Uttar Pradesh at 34 and the national capital Delhi at 27. Last year, over 730 doctors had died from the infection across the country, the IMA said. But the numbers have not be tracked by the government as revealed in the Parliament.
