‘He Was Destined For Greatness’: Tributes Pour In From Industry Leaders, Others After Cyrus Mistry Death

Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several other top leaders and business tycoons poured in tributes for Cyrus Mistry's family and friends

Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was killed in a road accident near Palghar in Maharashtra on Sunday. Mistry was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead. Mistry's Mercedes car hit a divider in Palghar while he was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

According to the police, the accident happened around 3.15 pm and the body was later shifted to Kasa rural hospital for postmortem, as per a PTI report. Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several other top leaders and business tycoons poured in tributes for Cyrus Mistry's family and friends.  

Here are some of the reactions to the business tycoon's death:

Following this incident, the current chairman of the conglomerate – Tata Group – N Chandrasekaran paid his respect to Mistry and said it was "really tragic that he passed away at such a young age".

"I am deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely demise of #CyrusMistry. He had a passion for life, and it is really tragic that he passed away at such a young age. My deepest condolences and prayers for his family in these difficult times," as quoted by ANI.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari paid his sincere condolences to Mistry's family members. "Deeply saddened to know about the unfortunate demise of Ex-Chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry Ji in a road accident near Palghar, Maharashtra. Sincerest condolences to his family members. May he Rest In Peace. Om Shanti," Minister Nithin Gadkari tweeted.

Harvard professor Nirmalya Kumar who worked with Mistry at Tata Sons thanks him for the life lessons. "My dear friend, ex boss, and chairman of Tata Sons. Thank you for the life lessons. Inconsolable- we shared a laugh last month on a park bench in London. RIP," Nirmalaya Kumar said in a tweet.

Chairman of Jindal Steel & Power, Naveen Jindal said that he was deeply saddened to hear that Cyrus Mistry is no more."Deeply saddened to hear that #CyrusMistry is no more. His tragic accident is shocking. He was a great human being and a thorough gentleman will miss his ever-smiling presence. Prayers for the departed soul, Om Shanti"

RPG Enterprises Chairman, Harsh Goenka tweeted, "So sad to hear of the shocking news of the passing away of #CyrusMistry in an accident. He was a friend, a gentleman, a man of substance. He was instrumental in creating the global construction giant Shapoorji Pallonji and ably led the Tata group."

Union Minister Smriti Irani said that Cyrus has epitomised kindness. "A gentle soul, a man with a vision and a mission; Cyrus as I will always remember him epitomised kindness. The news of his demise comes as a shock. My condolences to his family & loved ones. Om Shanti," the union minister tweeted.

In a tweet, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, Mistry was amongst the brightest business minds of the country. "Saddened by the tragic news of the demise of former Chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry. He was amongst the brightest business minds of the country, who made a significant contribution to India’s growth story. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers," Congress' Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Telangana IT & Industries Minister KT Rama Rao expressed his shock to the news. "Shocked totally! One of the most humble, dignified & nice humans who I’ve had the pleasure of being a friend over the last 8 years; Cyrus Mistry is no more! Rest in peace Cyrus. Yet another good soul Gone too soon."

 

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde paid his tributes. "Shocking news of the untimely demise of Shri Cyrus Mistry. A passionate businessman deeply invested in the idea of New India. Condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace," CM Shinde tweeted. 

Mahindra Group chairman, Anand Mahindra said that Cyrus Mistry was destined for greatness. In a tweet, Mahindra wrote, "Hard to digest this news. I got to know Cyrus well during his all-too-brief tenure as the head of the House of Tata. I was convinced he was destined for greatness. If life had other plans for him, so be it, but life itself should not have been snatched away from him. Om Shanti."
