Cyclone Tauktae HIGHLIGHTS: Cyclonic Storm To Weaken Into Deep Depression In Next 6 Hours, Says IMD
Cyclone Tauktae HIGHLIGHTS, May 18: After hitting Mumbai yesterday afternoon, Cyclone Tauktae with winds gusting up to 185 km per hour started making landfall on the Gujarat coast on Monday night. IMD informed that the storm which had hit Gujarat coast in Saurashtra between Diu and Una around 9 pm, ended around 12 am on Tuesday. The storm forced the evacuation of over 1.5 lakh people in Gujarat and left two barges with 410 people on board adrift in the Arabian Sea.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the storm which had hit Gujarat coast in Saurashtra between Diu and Una around 9 pm, ended around 12 am on Tuesday.
The very severe cyclonic storm forced the evacuation of over 1.5 lakh people in Gujarat and left two barges with 410 people on board adrift in the Arabian Sea.
Heavy teams of Armed forces and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed on western coasts to carry out rescue and evacuation operations.
Meanwhile, all operations at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport shall remain suspended till 5 am on May 18 in view of the Cyclone Tauktae
Tauktae Tears Up Gujarat Coast; 13 Dead, 16,000 Houses Damaged
As many as 13 people were killed in Gujarat as cyclone Tauktae pummelled parts of the state and left behind a trail of destruction along the coast, uprooting electric poles, trees and damaging thousands of houses and roads, officials said on Tuesday.
Even as Tauktae's intensity weakened, it left behind a trail of destruction with as many as 13 people losing their lives in different parts of Gujarat, including Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Patan, Amreli and Valsad, officials said.
Tauktae Weakens As Cyclonic Storm But Rains Lash Parts Of Gujarat; 7 Dead So Far
At least seven people were killed in Gujarat as cyclone Tauktae battered parts of the state and left behind a trail of destruction along the coast, uprooting electric poles and trees, and damaging several houses and roads, before weakening, officials said on Tuesday.
Tauktae has now weakened into a "cyclonic storm" and will gradually become a "deep depression" as it moves northwards, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
