The Southern Railways and South Western Railways has cancelled several trains from and in the southern region as the Cyclone Nivar is set to make landfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts late on Wednesday. As a precautionary measure, the body has cancelled at least eight trains, in addition to the 26 flights to and from Chennai. News agency ANI quoted the Chennai Airport saying 'Twenty-six flights from/to Chennai cancelled due to Cyclone Nivar.

Cyclone Nivar is categorised as 'very severe'. With this perspective, the Southern states are taking several measures.
