Cyclone Jawad: Heavy Rainfall Likely Across East Godavari District In Next Three Days

The District Collector asked the administration and people to be vigilant and warned of heavy rainfall across East Godavari district in the next three days due to the impact of Cyclone Jawad. 

Andhra Pradesh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert warning and predicted that a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal may intensify into cyclone.

District Collector C Harikiran has asked the district administration and people to be vigilant and warned of heavy rainfall across East Godavari district in the next three days due to the impact of Cyclone Jawad. 

According to Harikiran, the low-pressure area in the central Andaman Sea will intensify into cyclones in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal on Thursday. It will be moving in the north-west direction and hit the North Andhra -Odisha coast on December 4, with the possibility of heavy rains and strong winds in the East Godavari district from December 3 to 5. 

The Collector directed the Fisheries Department officials to warn the fishermen not to venture into the sea and to take steps to ensure that those already in the sea reach the shore immediately. He urged the people living in huts to move to safer areas to prevent accidents due to the weather. People were advised to postpone their journeys in anticipation of an inclement weather. 

As a precautionary measure, orders were issued to all the public and private schools in the district to remain closed December 4.

The District Collector said control rooms should be set up at all divisional centres in the Collectorate to keep the control room informed of storm conditions from time to time. He directed the authorities to strictly enforce standard disaster control measures to prevent loss of life and property.
