Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Monday, June 14, 2021: For the fourth time in a week, Maharashtra's Covid-19 death toll climbed to a new peak, while the total cases crossed the 59 lakh mark though fresh infections dropped, health officials said on Sunday. With Covid-19 numbers in Delhi dropping to a three-month low, all market activities have been allowed from today, but with certain restrictions as part of the phased unlock plan of the Delhi government.

Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Monday, June 14, 2021: For the fourth time in a week, Maharashtra's Covid-19 death toll climbed to a new peak, while the total cases crossed the 59 lakh mark though fresh infections dropped, health officials said on Sunday.

Compared with 1,966 deaths declared on Saturday, the state now revealed the highest-ever fatalities, at 2,771 (comprising 483 new and 2,288 earlier deaths), taking the toll to 111,104.

The number of fresh cases remained below the 15,000 level, dipping from 10,697 on Saturday to 10,442, as the total tally zoomed to 59,08,992 now.

In Mumbai, for the 17th consecutive day, new infections remained below the 1,000 level, decreasing from 749 on Saturday to 695, and the city tally rose to 715,660. Deaths increased from 18 a day earlier to 19, sending the total fatalities in the country's commercial capital to 15,183, due to reconciliation of data.

 

New Covid cases declined to 7,810, while 18,648 patients were discharged and 125 succumbed to the infection in a day across Karnataka, said the state health bulletin on Sunday.

"With 7,810 new cases registered on Saturday, the state's Covid tally rose to 27,65,134, including 1,80,835 active cases, while 25,51,365 recovered, with 18,648 patients discharged during the day," said the bulletin.

As epicentre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru reported only 1,348 new cases, taking its Covid tally to 11,96,688, including 85,995 active cases, while recoveries increased to 10,95,385, with 4,125 patients discharged in the last 24 hours.

The virus claimed 125 lives, including 23 in Bengaluru, taking the state's death toll to 32,913 and the city's toll to 15,307 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.

Out of 1,29,617 tests conducted across the state during the day, 48,776 were through rapid antigen detection and 80,841 through RT-PCR method.

 

India's Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, visited the city of Philadelphia during which he interacted with some of the top pharmaceutical companies and had a meeting with the city mayor, who applauded India for supplying with two million N-95 masks last year.

A pleasure to start the day in Philadelphia with a meeting" with Philadelphia Mayor Jim F Kenney, Sandhu said in a tweet as he kicked off his two-day trip to the city on June 11.

This was his first travel out of the national capital area during the COVID-19 crisis.

During the meeting, Kenney thanked India for supplying two million N-95 masks to Philadelphia in 2020, Sandhu said.

Over 25.87 crore Covid vaccine doses administered in India

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has gone past 25.87 crore, the Union health ministry said on Monday.

It said 20,99,621 beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group received the first dose, while 1,16,326 got the second dose of the vaccine on Monday.

Cumulatively, 4,34,35,032 people in the 18-44 age group have received the first dose while 8,33,808 have received the second dose across the country since the start of the third phase of the vaccination drive against the viral disease.

Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have administered the first dose of the vaccine to more than 10 lakh beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group each, the ministry said.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has reached 25,87,13,321, according to a provisional report compiled at 7 pm. (PTI)

The number includes 1,00,67,641 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose, 69,81,884 HCWs who have received the second dose, 1,68,38,400 frontline workers (FLWs) who have taken the first dose, 88,76,931 FLWs who have got the second dose, 4,34,35,032 and 8,33,808 individuals in the 18-44 age group who have received the first and the second dose respectively.

Besides, 7,65,48,740 and 1,20,81,922 beneficiaries in the 45-60 age group have been administered the first and the second dose of the vaccine respectively, while 6,29,78,733 and 2,00,70,230 beneficiaries above 60 years of age have taken the first and the second dose respectively.

As on the 150th day of the vaccination drive (June 14), a total of 35,96,462 vaccine doses were given -- 31,84,503 beneficiaries vaccinated for the first dose and 4,11,959 for the second dose -- according to the provisional report.

The final reports for the day would be compiled by late night.

The vaccination exercise as a tool to protect the most vulnerable population groups in the country from COVID-19 continues to be regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level, the ministry underlined.

Kerala Govt To Change Lockdown Strategy After June 16, Set To Impose Region-Wise Restrictions: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

"The lockdown strategy will change after June 16. Depending on the COVID situation, restrictions will be imposed region-wise. It will be implemented by local bodies. Further details about it will be declared tomorrow": Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan revealed.

Kerala reported 7,719 new Covid cases, 16,743 recoveries and 161 deaths today. With this, there are 1,13,817 active cases in the state. A total of 26,10,368 patients have recovered and 11,342 have died, he added.

Showing Recovery Jharkhand Records 2 COVID-19 Fatalities; New Cases Plunge To 154

Ranchi: Tribal-dominated Jharkhand recorded two COVID deaths during the last 24 hours showing signs of recovery, while new cases plunged to 154, a health department bulletin said on Monday.

Capital Ranchi and adjoining Ramgarh districts saw one death each.

No positive cases were reported from two of its districts- Godda and Pakur- while not a single death was recorded from 22 out of its 24 districts.

Total active cases in the state fell to 3,395 while the total death tally stood at 5,084.

New coronavirus cases plunged to 154, which took the tally to 3,43,458, the bulletin said.

A Maximum 32 new cases were reported from East Singhbhum, followed by 19 from Hazaribag and 17 from Ranchi.

However, the mortality rate in the state remained at 1.48 per cent, higher than the national average of 1.20 per cent.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state has improved to 97.53 per cent, better than the national average of 95.30 per cent.

The state now has 3,395 active cases, while 3,34,979 patients have recovered from the infection including 713 during the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.

Altogether, 91,01,699 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in Jharkhand, including 35,472 since Sunday, it added.

In a bid to combat the second wave of COVID-19, the government has extended the lockdown like restrictions in the state till June 17 in the state.

Also there was almost complete weekend lockdown in the state that began on Saturday 4 pm and continued till Monday 6 am with all shops in the state including shops selling fruits, vegetables, grocery items, sweets and eatables closed barring medicines shops, hospitals and petrol pumps etc.

Several other restrictions, including seven-day mandatory quarantine for people visiting the state, have been in place.

The state has also suspended the operation of the intra and inter-city bus services and restricted the maximum number of attendees in a wedding event to 11. (PTI)
