J&K: Amit Shah To Address Rally In Rajouri

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, will address public rallies in Rajouri on Tuesday in Jammu and in Baramulla on Wednesday, as reported by news agency PTI.

Shah arrived in the evening and was received at the airport by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union minister Jitendra Singh, among others. The home minister is scheduled to meet various delegations, including those representing the Gujjar, Bakerwal and Pahari communities during his visit, officials said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharis, a long-pending demand of the community mostly residing in Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region and Baramulla in north Kashmir, where Shah is scheduled to address public rallies over the next two days.

AAP To Burn Effigies Of Ravan Made Of Garbage Across Delhi

The AAP will burn effigies of Ravan made of garbage at about 3,500 locations on Tuesday in protest against the BJP’s “failure” in the maintenance of cleanliness in the national capital, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party said, as reported by PTI.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Rajinder Nagar MLA Durgesh Pathak said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and supporters will also hold protests after burning the effigies at the respective locations and demand that Delhi municipal polls be held “at the earliest”.

When pointed out that the open burning of garbage is illegal and such a protest would add to air pollution, Pathak said that it would only be a ''symbolic'' action.

All three erstwhile municipal corporations were ruled by the BJP till they were unified and renamed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in May.

There was no immediate reaction from the MCD or BJP to the AAP's charge.
