Breaking News HIGHLIGHTS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on Thursday for major events in Diphu and Dibrugarh, aimed at enhancing the growth trajectory of the state. The Prime Minister will address a 'Peace, Unity and Development rally' at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district at around 11 am.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), during the program, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for various projects in the field of education.
"The MoS has ushered in a new era of peace in the region. Prime Minister's address at 'Peace, Unity and Development Rally' will provide a major boost to the peace initiatives in the entire region," it stated.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Veterinary College (Diphu), Degree College (West Karbi Anglong) and Agricultural College (Kolonga, West Karbi Anglong). These projects worth over Rs 500 crore will bring new opportunities for skilling and employment in the region. During the program, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of more than 2950 Amrit Sarovar projects. These Amrit Sarovar will be developed in the state at a cumulative cost of about Rs 1150 crore.
The Prime Minister's unwavering commitment to peace and development of the region was the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoS) by the Government of India and the Government of Assam with six Karbi insurgent organizations, the PMO said in a statement. The MoU has ushered in a new era of peace in the Northeast. The Prime Minister's address at the 'Peace, Unity and Development Rally' will boost peace initiatives across the region.
The Prime Minister will reach Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh at around 01:45 pm and dedicate Dibrugarh Cancer Hospital to the nation. Later, around 3 pm, he will attend a public function at Dibrugarh's Khanikar Maidan, where he will dedicate six more cancer hospitals to the nation and lay the foundation stone for seven new cancer hospitals.
"Under Phase 1 of the project, out of 10 hospitals, the construction of seven hospitals have been completed while three hospitals are at various levels of construction. Phase 2 of the project will witness the construction of seven new cancer hospitals," the release read.
Jaishankar to visit Bangladesh to invite PM Hasina for visit
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will begin a three-day visit to Bangladesh and Bhutan on Thursday with a focus on promoting bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on key issues.
Announcing the visit on Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that in Dhaka, Jaishankar will meet Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hold discussions with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.
"Yes, the EAM will pay a one-day visit to Dhaka on Thursday," Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla told reporters in Delhi on Monday.
Jaishankar's visit to Bangladesh is intended to lay the groundwork for Hasina's visit to India.
"He will carry a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to invite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit India," Shringla was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.
Jaishankar's last visit to Bangladesh was in March 2021.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the External Affairs Minister will be the first high-level visitor to Bhutan from abroad after March 2020. This reflects the importance attached to mutual relations between the two countries, the ministry said.

IED Found Along Highway In Jammu, Defused
An improvised explosive device (IED), planted along a highway on the outskirts of Jammu by suspected terrorists, was detected and defused on Thursday, officials said.
A police team reached the spot following information regarding a suspicious object found alongside the highway in the Sidhra area.
A police spokesperson said an explosive device was found there. The site was cordoned off and the device was destroyed through a controlled mechanism by the bomb squad.
