Delhi BJP to Protest Against Power Tariff Hike

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a series of demonstrations across all 14 districts on Monday to protest the imposition of Power Purchase Agreement Charges (PPAC) and other surcharges that have led to inflated electricity bills. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva made the announcement during a press conference on Sunday, criticising the Delhi government and electricity distribution companies for their alleged failure to secure electricity in advance for peak summer and winter demands, PTI reported.

"The burden of these additional costs is being unfairly placed on residents," Sachdeva stated. He called for a judicial inquiry, claiming that the PPAC was not part of the approved Business Regulatory Plan for power distribution companies until 2015, and alleged that its current imposition is a result of corrupt practices between the Arvind Kejriwal government and power distribution companies.

During the press conference, Sachdeva released a copy of a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), calling for intervention on the issue of excessive PPAC, pension surcharges, meter charges, and load surcharges, which have collectively inflated consumers' electricity bills. "Since 2015, the PPAC has increased every summer and winter for the relevant quarter, but it has never been withdrawn after the quarter ends," Sachdeva highlighted.

To protest against these charges, BJP workers will hold demonstrations at power distribution company offices across all districts of Delhi on Monday, Sachdeva said, as per PTI.

Oli-Led Nepal Government to be Sworn in today

Kathmandu: K P Sharma Oli, the leader of Nepal's largest communist party, has been appointed as Nepal's Prime Minister for a fourth term. Oli, 72, was appointed on Sunday by President Ram Chandra Paudel following the failure of outgoing Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to secure a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Friday. This appointment marks the formation of a new coalition government under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to a notice issued by the President’s Office, Oli, who is the Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), will be sworn in at 11 am on Monday at Shital Niwas, the main building of Rashtrapati Bhawan. Oli has gained the support of the Nepali Congress, the largest party in Parliament, and now faces the challenge of securing a vote of confidence from Parliament within 30 days of his appointment, requiring a minimum of 138 votes in the 275-seat House of Representatives (HoR).
