Andhra HC Posts Chandrababu Naidu’s Bail Petition In Skill Development Case To Thursday

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday adjourned the bail petition of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation Scam case until October 19.

At the request of Naidu's lawyer, the high court agreed to postpone the petition until Thursday.

G Basaveswara Rao represented Naidu, while Special Public Prosecutor Y N Vivekananda represented the Andhra Pradesh Police Crime Investigation Department (CID).

NewsClick row: SC To Hear Pleas Of Founder Purkayastha, HR head Chakravarty Against Arrest Today

The Supreme Court said Wednesday that it will hear two separate petitions from NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and its HR head Amit Chakravarty against their arrest under anti-terror law UAPA on October 19, after the Delhi High Court refused to grant them any relief.

The petitions were heard by a bench of Justices BR Gavai and Prashant Kumar Mishra, who told senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Devadatt Kamat, who were representing Purkayastha and Chakravarty, respectively, that they needed to be read.

"We need to go over the files. We will hear both cases tomorrow," Justice Gavai said. On October 16, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case urgently after Sibal brought it before a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.

On October 13, the Delhi High Court dismissed their appeals against their arrest and subsequent police remand in the case. On October 3, both were apprehended by the Delhi Police Special Cell.

They then petitioned the Supreme Court, challenging the arrest as well as the seven-day police detention, and seeking immediate release as interim relief. The court, however, refused to grant them relief, citing no procedural flaws or violations of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in their arrest.

On October 10, the trial court ordered them to be held in judicial custody for ten days.
