Cyclone Remal Triggers Floods Across Manipur, State Govt Declares Two-Day Holiday Till May 31

Continuous rainfall triggered by cyclone Remal has caused flooding across multiple districts in Manipur, prompting the state government to initiate active rescue and relief operations, an official said.In view of severe flooding caused by breaches in embankments along river banks, the government on Thursday declared a two-day public holiday for all state offices until May 31. Citizens have been urged to stay indoors unless faced with an emergency, according to a government directive.

Both May 30 and May 31 have been designated public holidays for all state government offices, corporations, autonomous bodies, and societies under the Manipur government, the order added..Departments responsible for rescue, relief, and essential services, such as home, police, relief and disaster management, power, health and family welfare, district administration, and water resources, will continue to operate, it added.

Meanwhile, rescue operations of stranded people continued in badly-hit areas of Imphal East and Imphal West districts.Fishermen from Thanga in Bishnupur district are aiding the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) in evacuating flood-hit people using traditional canoes, with similar efforts underway in various locations including Laipham Khunou and Khuman Lampak. 

MCD Issues Fire Advisory To Health Facilities, Asks For Report By May 31

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has issued an advisory directing all health facilities to take up measures like inspection of fire-fighting equipment, electrical load audits and installing automatic sprinklers in ICU to prevent fire incidents.The in-charges of health facilities have also been asked by the civic body to submit an action taken report by May 31.

The advisory comes after a fire at a private children's hospital in East Delhi on Saturday night killed six newborns.Health facilities are directed to regularly inspect fire-fighting equipment such as extinguishers, hydrants and alarms to ensure all are functional, according to the advisory issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Material used in construction and furnishing must be audited to identify and replace combustible material with those that are fire resistant, it stated.All in-charges of hospitals and health units in coordination with engineering department must follow these instructions to prevent occurrences of fire incidents in hospitals and various other healthcare facilities, the advisory stated.

Health facilities are directed to carry out maintenance and testing of fire safety equipment and also undertake electrical load audits to ensure they meet safety standards without overloading the system according to the National Electrical Code of India-2023, it stated.

Mumbai Police Arrests Man Behind Bomb Threat To Airport And Taj Hotel

Mumbai police have arrested the individual responsible for sending a bomb threat to their control room, threatening to blow up the airport and Taj Hotel. The police have confiscated the accused's mobile phone. The arrest took place in Uttar Pradesh, although the reason behind the threat remains unclear, according to Mumbai Police, ANI reported.
