Bengaluru Starts Treatment For Black Fungus Patients

MMC, Mysuru, SIMS, Shivamogga, GIMS, Kalaburagi, KIMS, Hubballi, KMC, Manipal and Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru are the regional centres in Karnataka to treat Mucormycosis.

Bengaluru: With the surge in Mucormycosis or Black Fungus cases in Karnataka, the state government has decided on Monday to start treating the disease that generally appears as a post-Covid complication in people due to excessive use of steroids.

Dr K Sudhakar, Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education for the Government of Karnataka, took to Twitter about the precautions the state government has been taking Mucormycosis or Black Fungus patients. He urged people not to panic and take all the precautions after recovering from Covid.

The Health Minister tweeted: "Mucormycosis is now a notified disease and all hospitals have to mandatorily report the cases. Government has ordered for 20,000 vials of Amphotericin B used for the treatment of Mucormycosis. Measures are being taken to identify sources of contamination to prevent infection."

He had enlisted regional centres to treat Mucormycosis — MMC, Mysuru, SIMS, Shivamogga, GIMS, Kalaburagi, KIMS, Hubballi, KMC, Manipal and Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru.
