Assam Govt Announces Free COVID-19 Vaccine To All Above 18 Years In State, Orders 1 Crore Doses Of Covaxin
Assam government has announced that it will provide free Covid-19 vaccination for everybody between the age group of 18 to 45 years in the state.
The Assam Government has ordered 1 crore doses of Covanxin from Bharat Biotech. On Tuesday, it was announced the Assam government will provide free Covid-19 vaccination for everybody between the age group of 18 to 45 years in the state.
Through a tweet, Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the letter sent to Bharat Biotech by the Assam government to order for the vaccines. The tweet read, “Funds collected in Assam Arogya Nidhi last year shall be utilized for procurement of vaccines. Today itself, we’ve placed orders for 1 cr doses with @BharatBiotech".

The state health department reported the surge in Covid cases. There were 67,151 tested samples for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
With 1300 new coronavirus cases recorded on Monday, the state has issued fresh guidelines till April 30. That includes shutting of non-essential activities at 6 pm, restricting the number of guests at a private function and encouraging adoption of work from home.
Amid reports of shortage in vaccines in the state, Sarma on Friday tweeted, “As of now, we have the following stocks: 1.Covishield ~ 3.25 lakh dose 2.Covaxin ~ 2 lakh dose Another batch of about one lakh Covaxin dose will arrive in a day or two. I request everyone eligible to please go in for your vaccination.”
The health ministry’s reported that Assam has vaccinated 15,55,461 people so far out of which 2,77,594 have had their second dose while 12,77,867 have been given first dose.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 11.72 crore on Friday as part of the world’s largest vaccination drive.
