Maharashtra: Denied Hospital Bed, Covid-19 Patient Dies In His Car In Chandrapur

This took place as 40-year-old Pravin Durga, a resident of Naginabagh area of Chandrapur city, went to the hospital with his relatives after his health deteriorated on Sunday but failed to get a bed due to a huge rush of patients.

Chandrapur: In a shocking incident, a Covid-19 patient died in his car after struggling to find a bed in a hospital in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur city.

This took place as 40-year-old Pravin Durga, a resident of Naginabagh area of ​​Chandrapur city, went to the hospital with his relatives after his health deteriorated on Sunday but failed to get a bed due to a huge rush of patients.

Eventually, he parked his vehicle in front of the government-run Covid hospital in a state of helplessness and continued his efforts for a bed. Durga’s oxygen level dropped in the meantime and he died in his Alto car.

After this shocking incident, the relatives protested in the vicinity of the government-run Covid hospital.

In another appalling incident, a patient breathed his last in a passenger shelter due to lack of treatment in Bramhapuri city of Chandrapur district on Sunday. The deceased identified as Govinda Nikeshwar, 50, was brought to Bramhapuri from Ambhora in Nagpur district for treatment. However, the patient after not getting a bed took refuge in a passenger shelter in front of Khristanand Hospital and died there.

Bramhapuri is the assembly constituency of Maharashtra Relief Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar.

In Chandrapur district, 1,200 Covid-19 cases are registered daily and the number of active cases is around 12,000.

However, the health facilities in the district continue to be in a state of disarray despite the surge in coronavirus cases with the patients waiting for long hours to find a bed.

Earlier, a Covid patient from Chandrapur district had to make a painful journey from Chandrapur for bed while another elderly patient identified as 75-year-old Ramesh Swan could not benefit from the government-run Covid treatment center as he was seen lying on the footpath for close to nine hours.

These incidents have put many people in the district in a state of dilemma, as they look forward to government support.

Maharashtra, which is the worst affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, has reported the highest daily new cases at 68,631.
