2019 Bajaj Dominar 400: What’s new?

Here’s everything you need to know about the updated Bajaj Dominar which features a couple of new components for 2019

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400: What’s new?

Unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo and christened as the CS 400, Bajaj’s concept bike took the motorcycling fraternity by surprise. Though its design resembled that of the Ducati Diavel, the CS 400 still had its own identity. The response was overwhelming, and there were high expectations from the bike which went into production as the Dominar 400. Even though the bike had everything going for it, it failed to draw a crowd.

Monthly numbers kept slipping and the constant price revision didn’t help the Dominar’s case either. While everything felt like it was going south, Bajaj has decided to update the Dominar 400 with components from the original concept. With the 2019 Dominar 400’s launch almost around the corner, we list down everything there is to know about the bike.

Features -

The Dominar 400 made it to production with almost the same features that the concept had. While the outgoing model has majority of the information displayed on the handlebar-mounted console, and tell-tale lights on the tank console, the 2019 variant will be a bit more detailed. To elaborate, the main instrument console is expected to feature all the tell-tale lights plus a side stand indicator. On the other hand, the fuel tank-mounted console will have readouts such as gear position indicator, fuel gauge, trip meter and odometer.

BSVI Engine -

2019 Bajaj Dominar 400: What’s new?

The Bajaj Dominar 400 currently features a single stubby exhaust. However, the upcoming bike will get a revised muffler design which is now beefier and has two exhaust ports rather than one. Moreover, the new design also comes with a slightly different looking catalytic converter, suggesting that the bike may be BSVI compliant. This comes in the wake of the upcoming BSVI emission norms that all Indian automobiles have to adhere to from April 2020. It’s also highly likely that the new engine will be slightly more refined. The Dominar 400 is currently powered by a 373.3cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that makes 35PS of power at 8,000rpm and 35Nm at 6,500rpm.

Suspension Upgrade -

The suspension setup on the current Dominar 400 is on the stiffer side which isn’t best suited for Indian roads. A few tweaks to make it slightly softer would go a long way in aiding its touring capabilities. That said, the 2019 version, according to the test mule spotted, will feature USD forks manufactured by Endurance instead of the conventional ones. It also makes the 2019 Dominar 400, the very first bike from Bajaj to feature one.

Components Retained

It’s no news that the 2019 model isn’t all new. While it gets some much needed updates, the bike still carries forward most of the components from the outgoing model. This includes the overall design, chassis, braking setup, alloys and tyres. However, unlike the outgoing model, the 2019 Dominar 400 will be offered with dual-channel ABS as standard. Aside from this, we could expect to see some fresh new paint schemes on the updated model too.

Launch and Pricing -

We do have confirmation from Bajaj that the Dominar 400 will be the very first launch for this year and is expected to hit showrooms by February. In terms of pricing, we could expect the 2019 model to command a premium of around Rs 15,000 to 20,000 over the current model which is priced at Rs 1.63 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
