Ranbir Kapoor On Physical Transformation In 'Shamshera', 'Losing weight is easy for me...'

Ranbir also said, " It's very complicated this whole bodybuilding business. It's something which always confuses me but I guess it's an occupational hazard.

New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor has always impressed audiences with the diverse roles he plays in his films. The soon-to-be-father who is making a comeback after four long years with 'Shamshera' shared notes about his physical transformation journey in the film. The 'Sanju' actor shared that although losing weight is very easy for him, gaining it is much harder.

In a video shared by the Yash Raj banner, who are producing the film which also stars Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir shared his physical transformation journey for 'Shamshera'.

"Physically, this film has been, by far, the toughest film for me because I am a very thin guy; that’s my genetic build. So, losing weight is very easy for me but putting it on is harder." Adding that the film's director Karan Malhotra's brief to him about the role helped him make the required transformation.

“His brief was that the character is not a new-age beach body person but someone who has grown up in jail. The time period of the film is the late 1800s. So, we need the feel of a worker’s body.”

Karan Malhotra also shared why it was important to physically transform Ranbir for the film. Karan shared that Ranbir's physicality had to be transmitted on the screen to audiences who watch 'Shamshera'.

"When we were doing the character-sketch of Ranbir’s character for Shamshera, it was my belief that the audience should feel his presence on the screen. The impact of his physicality was very important,” the filmmaker said.

“I think we have been able to achieve the physical presence of his character the way we wanted,” Karan concluded.

Ranbir also said, " It's very complicated this whole bodybuilding business. It's something which always confuses me but I guess it's an occupational hazard. You know, it comes with the kind of parts you do and the profession."

'Shamshera' is a period-action film produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj banner. The film also stars Ronit Roy, Saurabh Shukhla and Ashutosh Rana in supporting roles.

Made on a budget of Rs 150 crores, 'Shamshera' is one of the most expensive Hindi films and will release on July 22, 2022
