Viral Post Depicts Rabindranath Tagore’s English Translation Of 'Jana Gana Mana' In His Own Handwriting
Did you know that 'Jana Gana Mana' was also translated into English by Rabindranath Tagore? The original translated manuscript of the song was shared by the Nobel Prize's official Facebook page.
Many of us learned to sing and memorise India's National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, in school. Rabindranath Tagore, India's first Nobel laureate, composed the song in Bengali under the title 'Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata' in 1911. Although the song has five verses, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted only the first verse as the National Anthem on January 24, 1950. Many people are unaware that Tagore also translated the song into English. The Nobel Prize organisation recently shared a photo of the translated manuscript on social media. People have responded enthusiastically, with many expressing their gratitude for the post.
The caption of the post read: "Jana Gana Mana’ (Bengali: [ɟənə gəɳə mənə]) is the national anthem of India, originally composed in Bengali by poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was awarded the #NobelPrize in Literature in 1913.
