Kerala State Lotteries of Kerala government are one of the biggest cash flows in the state. In total, there are seven daily and multiple bumper draws for the people of the state. Kerala government also conducts special draws on big festivals like Onam, Christmas, Vishu and Dussehra. The draw for lottery results are conducted at Gorky Bhavan near Bakery Junction, Thiruvananthapuram. Here are some of the important details of Kerala State Lottery:
  1. Is Kerala a lottery state? A lottery department was set up in Kerala, in 1967, when a lottery department was set up for the first time in India. The right idea came from the then Chief Minister of Kerala, the late Shri. E. M. S. Namboodiripad, The department which came into existence on September 1, 1967, released its first lottery ticket on November 1, the same year. The ticket valued at Re. 1 carried the first prize money of Rs. 50,000. The department now rolls out seven weekly lotteries and Six Bumper Lotteries every year.
  2. How many lotteries are there in Kerala? When is the next Bumper Lottery? Kerala government has 7 weekly and 6 Mega Bumper lottery draws per year. The next draw is for Christmas Bumper 2020 (BR 77) bumper 2021 & the result will be declared on 17 January 2021. Kerala Bumper lotteries draw will be held at 2.00 pm.

Here's how the winners can claim prizes of all Kerala State Lotteries: - For Amount less than ₹ 5000/: Winners can claim their prize money from any lottery shop in Kerala. - For amount more than ₹ 5000/-: Winners may have to surrender their tickets before the bank or government lottery office with ID proofs for the claim. Deductions include, Kerala lottery tax deduction of 30% and agent commission 10% of the prize claim.
  5. Is it legal to buy Kerala Lottery online? No, buying online lottery is banned. Kerala lottery is a paper lottery, anybody can buy from Kerala only.

Kerala Lottery: How to Claim Prize?

The prize-winner of a lottery needs to surrender the prize-winning ticket within 30 days of the draw with all necessary documents. Prizes up to ₹ 1 Lakh may be claimed from the District Lottery Offices concerned. Prize winning tickets above ₹ 1 Lakh needs to surrendered before the Director of State Lotteries after affixing the signature, name and address of the prize winner on the back side of the tickets with the following documents.
  1. A claim application along with a photocopy of both sides of the ticket, self attested.
  2. Two Passport size photos of the prize-winner duly attested by a Gazetted Officer/Notary.
  3. Receipt for the prize money in the prescribed form affixing a revenue stamp worth ₹1/- with full address of the prize-winner. This can be downloaded from the official website.
  4. If the prize winner is minor, Guardianship certificate from a competent authority is required.
  5. In case of joint claims, one of the prize-winners should be authorized to receive the prize money and a ‘Joint Declaration’ in stamp paper worth ₹50/- will be required.
  6. Self attested photocopy of the PAN Card.
  7. Attested document to prove identity of the winner. (copy of Ration Card, Driving License, Passport, Election ID Card etc.).
The winners can also claim their prize amount through Nationalised, Scheduled or State/District Co-Operative banks. The prize winning ticket needs to be surrendered to the bank with all the above mentioned documents, if necessary. The banks need to submit the claim to the Director of State Lotteries with the following certificates, a copy of which can be downloaded from the official website:
  1. The letter of Authorisation from the prize-winner
  2. The certificate from the receiving bank
  3. The certificate from the collecting bank
