A day after Supreme Court quashed the reappointment of Kannur University Vice-Chancellor Dr Gopinath Ravindran, Raj Bhavan in Kerala on Friday said Professor Bijoy Nandan will take charge as Vice Chancellor of Kannur University. Bijoy Nandan is a professor of Marine Biology department at Cochin University of Science and Technology.

According to ANI, Raj Bhavan said, "Professor Bijoy Nandan to take charge as Vice Chancellor of Kannur University."

On Thursday, the Supreme Court invalidated the reappointment of Gopinath Ravindran as the vice chancellor of Kannur University. The court strongly criticized the Kerala government for its "unwarranted intervention" in securing a renewed term for him as the head of the institution. Additionally, the court rebuked Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, the chancellor, asserting that he failed to independently exercise his judgment, emphasizing that he was not merely a "titular head."

After the judgment, Union MoS Muraleedharan said, "Kannur University has brought out the blatant nepotism and corruption indulged in by the CM of the state. The Governor has very clearly mentioned that he was influenced by CM, and because of the pressure exerted on him, he had to appoint that person as the Vice-Chancellor."
