Kerala First & Only State To Have Its Own Internet Service Provider: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Initially, the project is expected to provide internet connection to 14,000 households in the state.
In a first in the country, Kerala became the first state to have its own broadband service K-FON or Kerala Fibre Optic Network. The K-FON–a government-owned broadband service–is aimed at curbing the digital divide by providing equal internet access to all.
Launching the service, Vijayan said, "Finally, #Kerala has realized the dream of becoming the first state with its own internet service! It was a proud moment to dedicate #KFON to the people. It offers free internet connections to 20 lakh families, thus ending the digital divide by ensuring internet access for all."

Vijayan said, "Universal internet access is essential to keep up with the changing world and through K-FON we are preparing the infrastructure to transform Kerala into a knowledge economy and innovation society.
"Through it, we will connect Kerala with the Global Information Highway and lay the foundation for a new Kerala with global dimensions," he said, as per PTI.
Initially, the project is expected to provide internet connection to 14,000 households in the state.
Taking a dig at the Congress-led UDF opposition, he said there were those in Kerala who were opposed to any kind of development in the state.
The statement of CM came after the Congress-led UDF boycotted the launch of Kerala Fibre Optic Network. The Opposition came out against the project by alleging that there was corruption in the implementation of the project.
In a press conference held at Kochi, V D Satheesan, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, said, "The optical fibres were not made in India, but were instead procured from China and then rebranded. There was corruption in the implementation of the project."
The CM said that the stand of Opposition does not affect the government but it impacts the state and the people.
