Amid AIADMK-TVK Alliance Buzz, Ex-Minister Jayakumar Says Vijay’s Ambition To Form TN Govt A 'Daydream'

AIADMK leader Jayakumar’s statement followed political strategist Prashant Kishor’s categorical assertion that TVK would not align with AIADMK.

Amid ongoing speculation about an AIADMK-Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) alliance, senior AIADMK leader and former minister D Jayakumar on Tuesday dismissed actor-turned-politician Vijay’s ambition to form a government in Tamil Nadu in 2026. Calling it a “daydream,” he compared Vijay’s aspirations to the BJP’s long-standing but unsuccessful efforts to gain a foothold in the state.

Jayakumar’s statement followed political strategist Prashant Kishor’s categorical assertion that TVK would not align with AIADMK, as per a report on South First. In response to Prashanth Kishor's statement, TVK issued a clarification stating that only its officially designated spokespersons and media representatives were authorised to express the party’s views in media discussions.

During TVK’s anniversary event, Kishor had also described the party as “Tamil Nadu’s dream” and emphasised his role in helping it secure victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Jayakumar’s Take On Vijay’s Political Ambitions

Hitting back at Kishor's claims, Jayakumar stated that while anyone had the right to aspire to form a government, turning that dream into reality was a completely different challenge, as per a report on IANS. He suggested that Vijay’s remarks were likely aimed at motivating his party cadres, as many political leaders do, but maintained that the actor’s ambition would remain nothing more than a "daydream".

Rejecting comparisons between Vijay and MG Ramachandran (MGR), Jayakumar said that equating a towering leader like MGR with the head of a fledgling party was unacceptable. His remarks were also a direct response to Vijay’s recent assertion that TVK was emerging as a major political force in Tamil Nadu and would make history in the 2026 Assembly elections. Vijay had drawn parallels to the 1967 elections, when CN Annadurai’s DMK defeated the Congress, reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, and the 1977 elections, when MGR’s AIADMK overthrew the DMK to establish its dominance.

In addition to his criticism of Vijay’s political future, Jayakumar also took aim at the BJP-led Union Government. He strongly opposed the three-language formula, calling it an imposition on Tamil Nadu, and accused the Centre of withholding approximately Rs 2,400 crore under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.
