Woman Who Filed POCSO Case Against Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa Passes Away
Earlier, the woman had alleged that during her visit to Yediyurappa's residence with her daughter, the former CM had sexually assaulted the minor.
A woman who recently filed a Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) case against former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa passed away in a Bengaluru hospital. The woman had accused Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting her minor daughter during a visit to his residence in Hulimavu on February 2.
The complainant, suffering from multiple health issues, was admitted to Nano Hospital on Sunday, May 26, due to severe breathing complications. Dr. Mohan MR, Medical Director at Nano Hospital, said that the woman was brought in by her daughter, who informed the medical team of her mother's ongoing treatment for kidney issues over the past eight years and lung cancer for the past year and a half. Despite immediate ICU treatment, the woman succumbed to acute respiratory distress, said the doctor.
The doctor stated that they had explained the issues to the family and told them to file a medico-legal case if they were dissatisfied with the emergency treatment measures, so an autopsy could be performed. However, he told The News Minute that the family expressed satisfaction with the treatment and declined to lodge a complaint.
Yet, the police have not recorded statements from the woman's family members. The complaint had initially been filed at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru under the POCSO Act and Section 354(A) of the IPC, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, as per a report on IANS.
Earlier, the woman had alleged that during her visit to Yediyurappa's residence with her daughter, the former CM had sexually assaulted the minor. Yediyurappa, however, has denied the allegations, stating that the mother and daughter approached him seeking justice for a grievance and that he directed them to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner for further assistance.
The Sadashivanagar police are continuing their investigation into the case.
