Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy Shivakumar Receive E-Mail Bomb Threat, Probe On
The incident follows closely after the low-intensity blast at The Rameshwaram Cafe in Brookfield, east Bengaluru on March 1.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a few other cabinet ministers received an email threat on Tuesday. The threat email, sent from ID Shahidkhan10786@protonmail.com, was received by prominent figures including CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and state Home Minister G Parameshwara. The incident follows closely after the low-intensity blast at The Rameshwaram Cafe in Brookfield, east Bengaluru on March 1.
The mail as per ANI read, "What are your thoughts on the movie trailer? If you don't provide us with 2.5 million dollars, we will cause large explosions on buses, trains, temples, hotels and public areas throughout Karnataka."
"We want to show you one more trailer We are going to explode the next one in the Ambari Utsav bus. After the Ambari Utsav bus blast, we will raise our demands on social media. And will upload screenshots of the mail sent to you on social media. We will tweet information about the next explosion," it stated, as per the report.
The Bengaluru City Crime Branch police have filed a case. The threat emails have created panic since they emerged only days after a bomb blast in Rameswaram Cafe in Bengaluru. The blast also resulted in injuries to nine persons.
On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasised that the individuals responsible for the Rameshwaram cafe blast would be identified and punished. He urged opposition parties to avoid politicising the incident. Further, Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday handed over Bengaluru's Rameshwaram Cafe blast probe to National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Karnataka Police also arrested an individual named Mohammed Rasool Kaddare for sharing a video on social media where he issued threats against PM Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The arrest followed the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at Surpur police station in Karnataka's Yadgiri district.
The accused was charged under sections 505(1)(b) and 25(1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Arms Act, at the Surpur police station in Yadgiri.
