Savarkar Poster Row: After Shivamogga, Flex Of Hindu Mahasabha Leader Torn Down In Tumakuru

The Tumakuru SP said, "The poster of VD Savarkar was torn by some unidentified people with intention of creating tensions. Further investigations are on."

Chennai: A day after violence broke out in Shivamogga for removing the posters of Hindu Mahasabha leader Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, another poster of Savarkar was torn down in Tumakuru of Karnataka on Tuesday. The BJP supporters installed the poster of Savarkar across the state as part of the Independence Day celebrations on Monday.

According to a tweet on ANI, Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, SP of Tumakuru said, "A flex of VD Savarkar which was put near Ashoka road in Tumkur on August 15 was torn by some unidentified people with intention of creating tensions."

"We have registered a case and a further probe is underway," he said.

The tension over the poster of Savarkar started on Independence Day after supporters of Tipu Sultan objected to the installation of Savarkar's banner and instead demanded the installation of Tipu's flex in the same place. The commotion soon turned into a fist fight and a man was stabbed in the violence. 

The police immediately took to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control. The injured man was then taken to the hospital for treatment. The police also implemented section 144 and other prohibitory orders till August 18.

On Tuesday, the police identified four accused in the case. When they went to arrest them, one of the accused reportedly attacked the police. As a defense, the police said that they shot him in the leg and he is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The remaining three accused have been arrested. 

Further investigations are on.
