Minister Eshwarappa Should Be Slapped With Sedition Charges For His 'Saffron Flag' Comment: K'taka Cong Leader Siddaramaiah

Leader of Opposition in the state, Siddaramiah on Wednesday demanded Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that the minister should be sacked from Cabinet

New Delhi: A week after Karnataka's Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa said that not now but in the future saffron flag may become the national flag, Leader of Opposition in the state, Siddaramiah on Wednesday demanded Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that the minister should be sacked from Cabinet.

"Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa recently said: "We will hoist a saffron flag at Red Fort". The chief minister should sack him from the Cabinet. He has no right to continue as minister after this statement," Said LoP Siddaramaiah as quoted by ANI news agency.

The Congress leader also said that like how farmers were booked under sedition charges, who tried to hoist their flag at Red Fort, the same should be followed. Sedition charges should be filed against Eshwarappa, he added.

While countering Siddaramaiah's allegations, Law Minister JC Madhu Swamy said, "Eshwarappa was asked by media if a saffron flag would be hoisted on Red Fort. In response, he said 'maybe, one day'. We say the national flag is our flag."

On February 10, Minister Eshwarappa said that may be not now but in the future saffron flag will be hoisted at Red Fort and the flag could replace tri-colour.
