A girl student was gang raped when she was with her male friend near Chamundi foothills in Mysuru on August 24. Four days later, police arrested five people including a juvenile from Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: Accused of Mysuru gang rape case informed the police that they thought Mysuru was the safest place to commit crime as none of their victims had approached police so far, said a report.

A 22-year-old MBA student was gang raped when she was with her male friend near Chamundi foothills in Mysuru district on August 24. The accused attacked her friend and demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakhs. Four days later, police officials arrested five people including a juvenile from Tamil Nadu and were further investigating the case. The victim, who is from Maharashtra, has not recorded her statement as she is in trauma.

A source has told IANS that a mobile robbery complaint filed by a woman had helped police to move forward in the case as one of the accused was using the cellphone. Police who collected the details of the robbery case, traced the mobile phone with its IMEI number.
