Karnataka: Mild Tremors Felt In Parts Of Dakshina Kannada, Third Quake In A Week

Mild tremors were felt in many parts of Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday morning

Mangaluru: Mild tremors were felt in many parts of Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday morning. Similar to the earthquake on June 25 that shook parts of the taluk, the tremor measuring 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale was felt at around 7.45 am on Tuesday, officials said.

This is the third quake that hit several parts of the district in the last one week. On June 25, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 9.09 and its range was 4.7 km from the epicentre.

The residents of Sampaje, Aranthodu, Peraje, Jalsoor, Ubaradka, Thodikana and Mittur in the Sullia taluk of the district felt the tremors that lasted four seconds, said the PTI report. Some residents ran out of their houses in fear.

Cracks were noticed on the wall of the house of Sampaje's former Gram Panchayat member PR Nagesh in Kallugundi of Sulia taluk. Meanwhile, another Gram Panchayat member Abusali crack on the wall of his house became more prominent after the quake on Tuesday morning.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) stated that the depth of the earthquake was 5 km.
