Karnataka Man Kills Daughter For Having Intercaste Relationship With Dalit

The father Manjunath was allegedly upset with her daughter Kavana for having inter-caste relationship with a Dalit.

The latest murder came after two intercaste incidents were reported in Kolar district last month.

A father allegedly killed her daughter for having a relationship with a Dalit boy from Bidalur village in Devanahalli taluk of Rural Karnataka on Wednesday. The father Manjunath was allegedly upset with her daughter Kavana for having inter-caste relationship with a Dalit. Kavana, a second-year student, was in love with a Scheduled Caste youth from Yaliyur village of Devanahalli taluk. 

Previously, Manjunath insisted Kavana to avoid the relationship but Kavana wanted to marry the boy. 

On Thursday, the father-daughter duo had a conversation which soon turned into a heated argument. In a fit of rage, the father took out a sickle and slit the throat of his daughter. 

Manjunath, a chicken shop owner in Bidalur, had used the sickle for chopping chicken. 

In addition, Kavana's younger sister was also interested in another boy. Manjunath charged Kavana for her younger sister's love.

Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Purshotham said Manjunath committed the murder due to "malicious gossip" surrounding his family, as per a report on India Today.

The latest murder came after two intercaste incidents were reported in Kolar district last month.

On the Kolar killings, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, "Crimes reflected the deeply rooted caste system, social customs and lowly mindset."

He had promised that his government would initiate legal action to stop honour killings and make sure that the investigations into such cases were conducted properly.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Cyber Crime police arrested a man for posting obscene pictures of his live partner on social media. He was also part of a group that was involved in similar crimes. The families of the accused and the woman were aware of the relationship. They were preparing to get them both married soon.
