Karnataka CM Bommai Orders Probe Into Death Threat Calls Received By Siddaramaiah
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai also said that he has given instruction to DGP to provide suitable security for the leader of the opposition party, Siddaramaiah.
Chennai: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai ordered a thorough inquiry into the death threat calls received by the Opposition leader of the Assembly Siddaramaiah on Friday. The development comes after Siddaramaiah said that he was receiving death threat calls amid a row over Savarkar.
According to ANI, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said, "We've taken this issue seriously."
"I had also called DG and spoke to him. Police will probe the matter. I have given instruction to provide suitable security for the leader of the opposition party," he said.

On Thursday, BJP workers also stopped Siddaramaiah's car and threw eggs at his vehicle. They also showed him black flags while he tried to tour the districts to meet people in the rain-hit Kodagu district.
Earlier, addressing an event, Siddaramaiah, speaking about Thursday's incident, said, "These people 'eliminated' Gandhi. Will they leave me? They killed Gandhi. Godse had shot at Gandhi, yet they worship the assassin's photograph."
"Yesterday (Thursday), they were protesting by holding posters of Savarkar, they are calling a man who apologised to the British as Veer Savarkar. I don't have any personal enmity or anger against Savarkar. He was also a human being, but his conduct was not right," said the Congress legislature party leader said.

The controversy over Savakar’s poster started after BJP members put up a poster of Savakar in a Muslim majority area and while a group of people told BJP members to remove the poster during Independence Day on Monday for keeping the poster of Tipu Sultan in Shivamogga it broke into a clash. A man was stabbed in the commotion resulting in a tense situation.
