ABP Nadu Impact: Narikuravar Nomadic Families Allotted Shops In Mahabalipuram, Assured Toilets Will Be Built In Their Locality
After ABP Nadu’s viral video, Chengalpattu Collector AR Rahul Nadh on Thursday met Ashwini along with the members of her community and handed over the permit for four shops in Mahabalipuram.
Chennai: After a video of ABP Nadu brought to light the plight of Narikuravar families in Mahabalipuram, Chengalpattu Collector AR Rahul Nadh allotted four shops in Mahabalipuram and assured that toilets would soon be constructed for the families in the locality. It maybe recalled that CM Stalin meet the families of Narikuravar, an indigenous community, in November last year and distributed several welfare measures.
In a video by ABP Nadu, Ashwini said, "The government did not arrange Rs 1 lakh loan as promised, They said that they will construct homes but they haven't started any work."
"Also, all the shopkeepers are mocking us and saying 'You're people on the road and why do you want a shop" she said.

Last year, Ashwini made news after she spoke about the discrimination she faced in a video that went viral. In the video, she said that she was denied food during an annadhanam organised by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department. Following this, TN CM Stalin celebrated Diwali with Narikuravar community members in Pooncheri village in Mahabalipuram. He also announced welfare measures of Rs 4.35 crore as Diwali gifts for them.

On Thursday, Chengalpattu Collector AR Rahul Nadh after ABP Nadu’s viral video met Ashwini along with the members of her community and handed over the permit for four shops including a shop near Shore Temple and three shops near Five Rathas. He also gave loan for Rs 1 lakh to five people including Ashwini. He said that loan for the rest of the people will also be provided soon.
The Collector also assured that the toilets would be constructed soon.
