Heatwave Deals Double Blow To Karnataka Reeling Under Water Crisis, Kalaburagi Hits 42.7°C

Along with the Kalaburagi district, several other parts of Karnataka are also currently experiencing extremely hot weather.

Several parts of Karnataka are currently experiencing scorching temperatures, with Kalaburagi district recording the highest temperature in the state at 42.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Kalaburagi had previously recorded 43.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 43.3 degrees Celsius on Friday. Bengaluru, known for its moderate climate, witnessed the mercury rise to 37.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

This follows a high of 37.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday, marking the city's warmest day in the past eight years. Other districts experiencing intense heat include Bagalkote, Koppal, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Hassan, Mandya, and Vijayapura district, news agency PTI reported.

The heatwave comes as a double blow for the southern state amid its water crisis. Bengaluru has been reeling with a crippling water crisis while government officials declared drought in 226 out of 236 taluks in Karnataka. A war of words has erupted between the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led government and the Modi government over the release of drought relief fund.

Karnataka Likely To Witness Light Rainfall

According to PTI, the Meteorology Department has forecast dry weather for the state. However, light rainfall is anticipated to occur in isolated places over Chamrajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga districts in the next 24 hours. Additionally, light rainfall is predicted on Tuesday in isolated areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgir, Chamrajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga districts.

The department has warned of hot and humid conditions likely to persist in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, and western parts of Chikkamagalur districts over the next two days. “Maximum Temperature is very likely to gradually rise by 2°C to 4°C over all the districts of North Interior Karnataka and over Bengaluru Rural and Urban districts, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Tumakuru districts of South Interior Karnataka during next two days,” the department confirmed, as quoted by PTI.

It also said that nights would be warm in Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Bagalkote, Dharwad, Raichur, and Kalburgi districts during the next two days.

Furthermore, A heat wave is also forecasted in Belagavi, Bidar, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Dharwad, Koppal, Raichur, Yadagiri, Ballari, Chitradurga, Davangere and Vijayanagara districts in the next 24 hours.

In response to the hot weather in Bengaluru, hospitals, including the KC General Ward, have opened sunstroke wards. Doctors advise people to cover their heads when outdoors and ensure proper hydration to prevent heat-related illnesses.
