Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday were present at the launch of the state government's Gruha Laxmi scheme in Karnataka.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday launched the Karnataka government's Gruha Laxmi scheme at a grand event. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was also present at the event. The scheme aims to provide a monthly allowance of ₹2,000 to women heads of families living below the poverty line (BPL). During a press briefing, Siddaramaiah highlighted that his government had successfully implemented three guarantees the Congress made during the recent state elections.
The Congress government in Karnataka completed 100 days on August 27. The upcoming fourth scheme, Gruha Laxmi, is scheduled to be launched today in Mysuru city, news agency IANS reported. The programme will see the participation of residents from the Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, and Coorg districts.
Speaking on the launch, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "Before the election, Congress had made five promises to Karnataka. We said that when Congress and its leaders say something, they do it. Today, when we clicked on the tablet, crores of women received Rs 2,000 directly into their bank accounts... Congress doesn't make false promises."
CM Siddaramaiah highlighted the Gruha Laxmi scheme as a significant project for the nation, with a budget allocation of ₹32,000 crore for the year. The government is set to incur an expenditure of ₹18,000 crore for this fiscal year alone. Approximately 13.3 million families, led by women, will benefit from the ₹2,000 monthly allowance, he said, as per IANS.
The implementation of guarantee schemes is anticipated to inject ₹4,000-₹5,000 into the hands of each family. This increase in purchasing power within the society is expected to bolster economic growth and contribute positively to the country's GDP. Additionally, it is anticipated to foster job creation, the Karnataka Chief Minister said.
On completion of 100 days in governance on Sunday, he said that his government is implementing guarantees and executing development projects while leading the state on the path of equality shown by philosophers like Gautam Buddha, Basaveshwara, Dr B R Ambedkar, Kuvempu, saint-poet Kanakadasa and Sree Narayana Guru, news agency PTI reported.
