Rajasthan Woman Arrested For Stealing Laptops From Various PGs, Hotels In Bengaluru

In the pretext of job interviews, she stayed in PGs and subsequently offloaded the stolen laptops in the secondary electronics market.

Bengaluru police arrested Jassu Agarwal, a Rajasthan BTech graduate, on charges of masterminding laptop thefts in multiple PG accommodations and hostels. In the pretext of job interviews, she stayed in PGs and subsequently offloaded the stolen laptops in the secondary electronics market. Overall, the police recovered 24 laptops worth Rs 10 lakh from her.

According to ANI, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said, "A Rajasthan-based 29-year-old woman has been arrested for stealing laptops from various paying guest accommodations and hotels in Bengaluru. 24 laptops worth Rs 10 lakh have been seized from her and further investigation underway."

Jassu Agarwal is originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She worked at a private bank in Bengaluru.

Agarwal's modus operandi involved stealing laptops left unguarded during meal times at the PGs and vacating the hostel within a week or two. The areas where she performed the theft include Tin Factory, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Silk Board, Hebbal, Mahadevapura and Whitefield.

Later, Agarwal reportedly peddled the pilfered laptops to individuals operating within the second-hand electronics market, reaping significant sums ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000. With her pockets filled, Agarwal made her way back to her hometown in Rajasthan.

Agarwal first came under scrutiny after a complaint was lodged within the HAL police jurisdiction in September 2022. Subsequently, the police found CCTV footage capturing an individual absconding with three laptops. Further inquiries into similar incidents enabled the police to zero down and arrest Agarwal.
