SC stays Gujarat HC proceedings against Ahmed Patel's election to RS

New Delhi [India], July 09 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the proceedings in the Gujarat High Court against Congress leader Ahmed Patel's election to the Rajya Sabha.

The apex court asked the high court not to proceed with the petition filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Balwantsinh Rajput challenging Patel's election to Rajya Sabha.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud is expected to hear the matter in the coming days.

On July 9, Rajput had moved the high court after he lost to Patel in the election to the Upper House in August last year.

Notably, Patel was elected to the Upper House of the Parliament after defeating BJP nominee Rajput.

Rajput, a former Congress' candidate, had joined the BJP just a few weeks before the polls to the Rajya Sabha. (ANI)
