US President Joe Biden To Attend G20 Summit In Delhi From Sept 7 -10

The White House stated that President Joe Biden will attend next month’s Group of 20 summit in New Delhi, India

The White House confirmed on Tuesday that President Joe Biden will attend the Group of 20 meeting in New Delhi, India, next month, news agency Associated Press reported. Meetings, as well as Biden's interactions with leaders on the sidelines of the summit, will focus on climate change, Russia's conflict in Ukraine, and other issues, according to White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan.

President Biden will also compliment Prime Minister Modi's G20 leadership and reiterate the United States' commitment to the G20 as the top platform for economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026, according to a statement issued by the White House.

The White House has not stated which leaders the president will meet with individually, but China's President Xi Jinping and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman are among officials from key global economies who have been invited to the leaders' gathering.

“He’ll discuss a range of joint efforts to tackle global issues from the clean energy transition and combating climate change to mitigating the economic and social impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine to increasing the capacity of multilateral development banks, including the World Bank, to better fight poverty and take on the significant transnational challenges that are afflicting countries across the world,” Sullivan was quoted by AP in its report.

According to Sullivan, Vice President Kamala Harris will go to Jakarta from September 4 to 7 to participate in the US-ASEAN summit and the East Asia Summit, as well as meet with Indo-Pacific leaders.

"The Vice President and ASEAN leaders will review the unprecedented expansion in U.S.-ASEAN relations under the Biden-Harris Administration and the Vice President will reaffirm the United States’ enduring commitment to Southeast Asia and ASEAN centrality. Throughout these Summits and her additional engagements, the Vice President will advance initiatives to promote our shared prosperity and security, including by advancing our work on the climate crisis, maritime security, infrastructure, economic growth, efforts to uphold and strengthen international rules and norms in the region, and other regional and global challenges," reads the official statement.
